Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The objective of the game is to score by getting the ball into the opposing team’s goal, primarily using feet, though players may use any part of their bodies except their arms and hands (goalkeepers are an exception). The game is played with a spherical ball and is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game.

Variants of football exist globally, with “soccer” being the term used in some countries, particularly in North America, to differentiate it from American football, a distinctly different sport. Football is one of the most popular sports worldwide, known for its following, culture, and influence in various societies. Major international tournaments, such as the FIFA World Cup and continental championships, highlight the sport’s global appeal and competitive nature. The sport emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and skill, making it a central component of athletic culture in many nations.
