Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop, which is elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular court divided into two main sections: the frontcourt and the backcourt. Players advance the ball by dribbling or passing it to teammates, while the opposing team attempts to prevent scoring by guarding players and intercepting passes. Points are scored in various ways: a field goal from inside the three-point line is worth two points, while a shot made from beyond the three-point line earns three points. Free throws, awarded following certain fouls, are worth one point each. The game consists of four quarters or two halves, depending on the league, with the team accumulating the most points declared the winner. Basketball emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and athleticism, making it a fast-paced and exciting sport played at various levels, from amateur to professional leagues globally.
